The rear cogs are fastened to the hub in one of 2 ways. Newer bikes tend to utilize the type of hub called a "cassette hub." Cassette Lockring Removal

Cassette Lockring Installation

Cassette freehub bodies and cassettes are oft designed so the cogs will fit in but one orientation. This permits manufacturers to align "shifting ramps" to specification.

1. Inspect splines of freehub torso. Await for a broad infinite between splines. Inspect the internal splines of cogs. Look for a wide spline to mate with wide space in freehub body. Align splines and engage all cogs.

6. Turn remover clockwise until lockring is tight, at least 360 inch-pounds (approximately 40 Nm). For installing lockring, utilise of the sprocket chain whip tool is not required.

The FR-v.2G speeds installation as well. Only insert the FR-5.2G into the lockring splines and tighten fully.

SRAM Uniform XD Freehub Cassettes

SRAM XD freehubs and sprockets are considered a cassette system. The lockring mechanism is hidden down within the cassette stack. Inspect the inner perimiter of the smallest sprocket for 12 splines. Use the FR-v.2, FR-5.2GT, FR-5.2H, or FR-5.2G on this plumbing equipment.

Non-Lockring Freehub Cog Removal

Older freehubs may lack notches or splines next to the axle. These older freehub cogs did not apply a freewheel or cassette lockring removal tool. There will be a dust cap for the hub on the right side, merely no recessed notches or lockring splines at all. The showtime cog acts as a lockring for the other cogs.

1. Using 2 concatenation whip tools, place showtime chain whip on second or third cog, property it clockwise.
